Radio goNORTH 2014

radio gonorth

What a year 2014 was for Radio goNORTH.  It moved location to the heart of the festival in the Mercure Hotel and took to the airwaves for a third year during our annual creative gathering in June.  We had the usual mix of interviews wtih speakers, artists, filmmakers and industry pro's as well as live sessions with bands showcasing during the two day extravaganza. Based in the bar at the Mercure Hotel, it meant that our delegates could enjoy a refreshment, listen to some fine chat and music and be part of the audience for the live broadcast.

Nine trainees this year got the benefit of industry professionals in the shape of our long-term collaborators, Dabster Productions, who guided them through the radio production process from start to end. After 10 days of learning the skills on the job by researching, writing, recording and editing packages, they took the next step of running and presenting a live broadcast for three days.  Well done Team Radio goNORTH – Njal, Emma, Lee, Gavin, Chloe, Gareth, Marion, Danya and Calum - good job, well done!

Our trainee producers have come from all different backgrounds, with a wide variety of skills and experience.  Radio goNORTH training was devised and structured to accommodate this, allowing new entrants to learn the basic skills while developing those with some experience.  In this unique 2 week course all the trainees came away with a thorough understanding of the end-to-end radio production and just what dedication and effort is needed.  Read about their experiences and highlights.
